A Bush apologist’s hapless spin at the la-times

The below paragraph, from this op-ed irritates me.

..Bush, however, seems to have recognized that tackling these difficult and long-term issues requires Republican imagination to go beyond “limited government.” Replacing our Social Security system with individual, private savings accounts, after all, requires more government spending, at least in the short-term. Increasing border patrols, administering a guest-worker program or hiring more Arab-language linguists at the CIA and FBI requires larger, more expensive government. The much-derided Medicare drug plan actually has, buried within it, the first seeds of means-testing and market competition among health plans, which conservative Republicans have long sought. But to get even this, Bush had to sign on to a very expensive entitlement expansion.

Ok, lets take this apart…

Bush, however, seems to have recognized that tackling these difficult and long-term issues requires Republican imagination to go beyond “limited government.”

“..beyond ‘limited government'” lies bigger government, bigger than the biggest damn government ever created in America. So Bush’s message to Conservative’s after the biggest expansion of government ever is that we “need to grow.” My answer? “not just NO but HELL NO!”

Replacing our Social Security system with individual, private savings accounts, after all, requires more government spending

Do we have individual, private savings accounts?..er..no..HELL NO!

Increasing border patrols…

They are NOT border patrols, they are–in Mr. Bush’s mind–“vigilantes.”

…..administering a guest-worker program…

Of course, the GOLD CARD PROGRAM requires more Gold=spending=Bush wants it.

The much-derided Medicare drug plan actually has, buried within it

Well, it was a LOW-BALLED Drug Plan that has roughly TRIPLED in price from what President Give Me Your Money originally quoted. It is not popular, it has not bought him or the conservatives votes or accolades and it has—-drum roll here—expanded government! But hey! I am working on “growing.” Also, I love the “..buried within it…” clause…see nobody can parse the freaking thing as it is too confusing.

grrrrrrr….
